I spend a lot of time talking to teenages. By far the most rewarding part (apart from laughing, a lot) is listening to their opinions and observations. When it comes to marketing campaigns targeting their age group, gender segregation is becoming less relevent to them, even though it seems to be on the increase.
I suppose it comes down to who's making the decisions within a company and their motivations. I'm sure you know who these people and how to get hold of them...
